Uncle Sam Still Wants You!

Uncle Sam

Did you know: Over 32% of NAVAHCS employees are also Veterans?

Wednesday, September 4, 2013

You may no longer be serving on active duty, but you can still serve your fellow Veterans.  The Department of Veterans Affairs offers rewarding employment opportunities to Veterans through various hiring authorities.  The Veterans Hiring Initiative supports hiring priority for preference-eligible Veterans, including disabled Veterans, Veterans eligible under the Veterans' Recruitment Appointment and Veterans Equal Employment Opportunity Act.
The Federal Government knows Veterans have technical skills in areas of critical importance, and many also already have security clearances required for some Federal positions, which is why the government, including the VA, has a long-standing history of hiring Veterans. Federal service provides a means for Veterans to continue their noble service to this country.
We recognize that Federal employment can sometimes seem complicated and overwhelming, particularly when you factor in things such as Veterans’ preference and special hiring authorities for Veterans. NAVAHCS recommends that Veterans looking to work for the VA should visit www.fedshirevets.gov for more information or talk to the local Human Resources department, located on the second floor of Building 14 of the Bob Stump VA Medical Center. Fedshirevets.gov is a one-stop resource tool for Federal Veteran employment information.
Assistance is also available to help you write your resume and obtain the necessary supporting documents.  Be sure to include your experience in detail and the end results of your experience on your resume.
DVA offers medical, dental and life insurance as well as the Thrifts Savings Program and retirement benefits.  If you are hired on a non-time limit appointment of less than a year, you will receive these benefits on your very first day of employment.
You may feel like you're alone, but you are not. NAVAHCS wants to ensure a smooth transition from deployment to employment and will do what it takes to stand by you through the process.
For more information, please contact Human Resources at (928) 445-4860 x 6015.
