Northern Arizona VA Health Care System

Youth Volunteers

Our summer youth volunteer program has been a great success each year!  Information about the 2016 Youth Program will be available in mid-March.  Applications are accepted for student volunteers between the ages of 13 - 17 years of age.  If you volunteer for at least four hours, you will receive a free lunch.  At the end of the program, everyone will be invited to a small Youth Volunteer Awards Ceremony.

Having volunteer time on scholarship applications makes a big difference for reviewers. Showing your dedication, time and effort to supporting our nation's Veterans may just put you a step above the rest! Not to mention that if you volunteer 100 hours or more within the year, you are eligible for certain scholarships given by the VA and our veteran service organizations.

Job and College Applications

With successful completion of the youth program and in good standing with VA staff, supervisors at the volunteer's work station will often write letters of recommendation for job applications.

Messages from our youth volunteers:

"It's very cool that I'm here helping take care of patients that helped our nation become a strong, free, and powerful country."
"It's so nice to see the smiles because you are there to talk with them, play games like dominoes, cards, checkers, etc."
"I like to feed the ones that cannot hold their fork, spoon, or cup.  To me, it's a gift to help them."
