MOVE Program – Helping Veterans Get Healthy
If you are interested in the MOVE Program, contact Deborah Drumel, MOVE Program Coordinator at 928-445-4860 ext. 6821.
Larry Joseph, an Army Veteran signed up for the MOVE Program in November 2017 and he has already lost 60 lbs. He was recommended to the program through the nurse on his Primacy Care Team. Larry’s wife is very supportive of the program and she even tracks his food and shops for healthy options.
Larry would like to weight half of what he weighs now and he believes it is possible to meet this goal through the MOVE Program. He thinks it is “a good program that offers cohesion with other Veterans in the program with a great support system.”
The MOVE Program is a small steps lifestyle program that can aid in weight loss. Deborah Drumel, MS, RD, CDE, Clinical Dietitian/MOVE Coordinator really listens to her patients. She teaches everyone in her program how to shop healthy, eat healthy and maintain the weight they lost. She communicates with her patients on a regular basis and explains the importance of remaining healthy.
Steve Davis is also an Army Veteran in the MOVE Program and he has lost 30 lbs. since he began in December 2017. He did not know the benefits of the program but he is very happy he joined. His wife comes to the program meetings, logs his food and is very supportive. His reason for joining the program was to lose weight but now he stays because he realizes how much it has improved his health. He wants to be able to see his grandchildren grow up and he is motivated to make it work. “It is the group support portion that makes it a great program for Veterans and Deborah is amazing” Steve says.
Veterans trust the program and they know they are not alone. Everyone helps each other through the rough times. NAVAHCS Veterans respond well to Deborah and she truly cares about each and every Veteran in her program.
The MOVE Program is a free 12-week group program for registered Veterans that meets on a weekly basis. Spouses/significant others are encouraged to attend the classes to help provide support and encouragement.
During your group meetings you will hear from a variety of guest speakers who will address various aspects of successful weight management. Private weighing in will be conducted each session to help monitor your success.
