Northern Arizona VA Health Care System
Simulation Lab Open House Event
The Sim Lab is a place for healthcare clinicians to safely practice skills and situational preparedness. With the use of task trainers, high-fidelity manikins and equipment, staff can be given realistic healthcare scenarios that challenge them to ensure they maintain the highest quality expertise in caring for our Veterans.
The Open House was an opportunity for staff to also meet Myra Whitt, Simulation Coordinator and Lisa Pelaez, Simulation Technician. Ms. Whitt has been working at NAVAHCS for a year. She has an extensive background in nursing skills education and simulation learning. Ms. Pelaez has been at NAVAHCS for eight months with a lot of knowledge regarding the use of simulation learning in education.
The Open House was a wonderful success with approximately 50 employees attending. The staff were oriented by Ms. Whitt and Ms. Pelaez through the variety of simulation technologies (and introduced to Larry Laerdal, our SimMan3G)!
The employees were also given demonstrations on what the Sim Center can provide. After the Open House, Ms. Whitt and Ms. Pelaez reached out to some of the departments that were unable to attend, providing information and literature about what the Sim Center has to offer.
The Education Department is very proud of the work the Sim Lab has been doing in preparing employees with these wonderful resources. If you did not have an opportunity to visit the lab during the open house and you want to learn more, you can contact the team at PRESimLab@va.govto set-up a tour.
